Lake Nyamirima and cottages surrounded by forested crater slopes

Our story

Rooted beside the “Mother of Darkness”

Lake Nyamirima Cottages takes its name, character, and quiet rhythm from the remarkable crater lake on whose shores it rests.

Where our name begins

A place shaped by its lake and forest

Lake Nyamirima Cottages lies beside Lake Nyamirima Crater Lake and carries its name with pride. Nyamirima means “Mother of Darkness”, a name inspired by the lake’s deep, dark appearance when viewed from the top of the surrounding cliff.

The darkness comes from the dense forest cover reflected across the water. That same forest provides shelter to a variety of monkeys and birds, giving the cottages a setting that feels alive, secluded, and unmistakably connected to nature.

Nyamirima Mother of Darkness

The name speaks to the deep colour created where forest, cliff, and crater water meet.
